Causes for Recurring Yeast Infections

A yeast infection is commonly caused by Candida albicans; a fungus that is normally found on the human body in the intestines, mouth and vaginal tract. Most of the time this fungus will not grow and cause infections in the body; however, there are some instances that will allow the fungus to grow. For instance, when a person takes antibiotics for a bacterial infection, the antibiotics will kill the bacteria that normally keep the fungus in check. This gives the fungus a chance to grow and cause a yeast infection. There are some individuals that have damaged immune systems and will suffer from recurring yeast infections. The individuals who are at the highest risk for recurring yeast infections are those undergoing chemotherapy treatment, patients with diabetes and AIDS patients.
